NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MANUFACTURER, DETERMINE THE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF THE HYDRAULIC TUBING IN SWEARINGEN SA 226-TC METRO AIRPLANES TO STRESS OR FATIGUE CRACKING, PARTICULARLY WHERE SUCH TUBING IS ROUTED IN THE VICINITY OF ELECTRICAL CIRCUITRY, AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO ESTABLISH LIFE LIMITS, TO REPLACE TUBING WITH ASSEMBLIES NOT SUSCEPTIBLE TO STRESS OR FATIGUE FAILURE, AND IF NECESSARY, TO REROUTE TUBING TO ASSURE THAT LEAKAGE WILL NOT PRESENT A FIRE HAZARD.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration, in coordination with the manufacturer, is asked to assess whether hydraulic tubing in Swearingen SA 226-TC Metro airplanes is prone to stress or fatigue cracking, especially where the tubing runs near electrical wiring. Based on that assessment, the FAA should set life limits, replace vulnerable tubing with more robust assemblies, and if needed, reroute tubing to prevent leakage from creating a fire hazard.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
