THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: REQUEST THE B.F. GOODRICH COMPANY TO AMEND SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 418, "LANDING GEAR, ALL 727 MODELS, MAIN LANDING GEAR BRAKES - INSPECTION FOR EXCESSIVE ROTOR WEAR," DATED JULY 25, 1983, TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE WARNING THAT TIRE DAMAGE ALSO IS POSSIBLE FROM THE CONTINUED USE OF THE "NEW" BRAKE LINING CUPS AND TO REQUIRE THE REMOVAL OF ALL "NEW" BRAKE LINING CUPS ON A PRIORITY BASIS.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The NTSB asks the FAA to direct the B.F. Goodrich Company to update Service Bulletin No. 418, dated July 25, 1983, concerning main landing gear brake inspection on all 727 models. The update should warn that continued use of the "new" brake lining cups could also cause tire damage, and it must require the priority removal of those cups.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
