NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation

Recommendation text

THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: IN COOPERATION WITH THE BOEING COMMERCIAL AIRPLANE COMPANY, DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF SHIELDING THE A AND B HYDRAULIC SYSTEM LINES, ELECTRICAL WIRING, AND CONTROL SYSTEM CABLES LOCATED IN THE WHEEL WELL OF B-727 AIRPLANES, AND OF MODIFYING THE WHEEL WELL LIGHTING SYSTEMS TO MAKE LESS VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE IN THE EVENT OF A TIRE EXPLOSION WITHIN THE WHEEL WELL.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The Federal Aviation Administration, in cooperation with the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company, is asked to evaluate whether it is feasible to shield hydraulic system lines, electrical wiring, and control system cables in the wheel well of B-727 airplanes and to modify the wheel well lighting systems to reduce their vulnerability to damage from a tire explosion inside the wheel well.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
