THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: REVISE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 76-23-03, APPLICABLE TO THE BELLANCA VIKING (MODELS 17-30 AND -31) AND SUPER VIKING (MODELS 17-30A AND -31A) AIRPLANES, TO REQUIRE INSPECTION OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ON THESE AIRPLANES FOR CRACKS AND FOR FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT AT THE BALL JOINTS AT EACH 100 HOURS TIME IN SERVICE OR ANNUAL INSPECTION, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST.
