THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE REQUIRING (1) AN IMMEDIATE INSPECTION OF ALL PIPER AIRPLANE MODELS THAT INCORPORATE TUBULAR STEEL WING LIFT STRUTS; (2) RECURRING INSPECTIONS AND APPLICATIONS OF CORROSION IMPEDANCE MEASURES TO PROMPTLY DETECT INTERNAL CORROSION AND SUPPRESS FURTHER PROGRESS OF CORROSION; AND (3) THE REPLACEMENT OF UNSEALED WING STRUTS WITH SEALED UNITS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.
