NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation

Recommendation text

THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: INCLUDE IN FAA ORDER 8400.10 PROCEDURES FOR APPROVING THE REDUCTION IN HOURS OF FLIGHT ATTENDANT RECURRENT TRAINING PROGRAMS. SPECIFIC GUIDANCE SHOULD BE INCLUDED FOR GRANTING WAIVERS TO REDUCE HOURS THAT TAKES INTO CONSIDERATION THE NUMBER OF TYPES OF AIRCRAFT FOR WHICH FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ARE QUALIFIED, THE ACCURACY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING DEVICES AND SIMULATORS, AND THE METHODS USED TO TEST AND EVALUATE PROFICIENCY.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The FAA is asked to add procedures to FAA Order 8400.10 for approving reduced hours in flight attendant recurrent training programs. The guidance should cover how to grant waivers based on the number of aircraft types flight attendants are qualified for, the effectiveness of training devices and simulators, and the methods used to test and evaluate proficiency.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
