THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FAA: ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE APPLICABLE TO ALL PIPER CHEYENNE PA-31T SERIES TURBOPROP AIRPLANES REQUIRING AN INSPECTION OF THE ELEVATOR CONTROL TUBE ASSEMBLY (PN 40847-07) AND ROD END BEARING (PN 49261-02). THE SHANK AND THREADED PORTION OF THE ROD END SHOULD BE EXAMINED FOR EVIDENCE OF CRACKS, AND THE BEARING SHOULD MOVE FREELY WITHIN ITS HOUSING. THE CONTROL TUBE ASSEMBLY, BUSHINGS, AND ATTACHING BOLTS SHOULD BE EXAMINED FOR CRACKS, ELONGATION, OR OTHER EXCESSIVE WEAR. THIS INSPECTION SHOULD BE PERFORMED WITHIN THE NEXT 10 FLIGHT HOURS AND AT APPROPRIATE INTERVALS THEREAFTER TO ASSURE INTEGRITY OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM. (URGENT)
