TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Amend FAA Handbook 7110.65H, Air Traffic Control, to require that instrument flight rules airplanes cleared for a visual approach behind a heavier turbojet airplane be advised of the airplane manufacturer and model, be provided a wake turbulence cautionary advisory, and be provided other information relevant to the avoidance of wake turbulence, such as separation distance and the existence of an overtaking situation.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The FAA is asked to update its air traffic control handbook to require that controllers advise pilots of instrument flight rules airplanes cleared for a visual approach behind a heavier turbojet of the airplane manufacturer and model, issue a wake turbulence cautionary advisory, and provide additional information relevant to avoiding wake turbulence, such as separation distance and whether an overtaking situation exists.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
