NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation

Recommendation text

THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: AMEND THE CURRENTLY REQUIRED AIRCRAFT PLACARD REFERRING TO INSTALLATION OF A LYCOMING O-360 SERIES 180 HORSEPOWER ENGINE PER STC NO. SA703GL TO INCLUDE THE STATEMENT "CRUISE PERFORMANCE, RANGE/ENDURANCE, AND FUEL CONSUMPTION DATA ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED BY CESSNA IS NO LONGER APPLICABLE." THE OBSOLETE DATA SHOULD BE STRICKEN OR REMOVED FROM ANY ORIGINAL AIRPLANE FLIGHT MANUAL/PILOT OPERATING HANDBOOK THAT IS CARRIED IN THE AIRPLANE.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The NTSB asks the Federal Aviation Administration to update a required placard for aircraft modified with a Lycoming O-360 series 180 horsepower engine under STC No. SA703GL, adding a statement that cruise performance, range, endurance, and fuel consumption data from Cessna are no longer applicable. The FAA must also ensure that such obsolete data is struck or removed from any original airplane flight manual or pilot operating handbook carried in the aircraft.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
