NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE APPLICABLE TO JANITROL AIRCRAFT HEATERS, MODELS B-1500, B-3040, AND B-4050, REQUIRE AN OPERATIONAL CHECK, AND ADJUSTMENT, REPAIR, OR REPLACEMENT AS NECESSARY, AT THE NEXT ANNUAL OR 100-HOUR INSPECTION, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST, AND AT APPROPRIATE INSPECTION INTERVALS THEREAFTER. THE CHECK SHOULD ESTABLISH THAT THE COMBUSTION AIR PRESSURE SWITCH CONTACTS ARE OPENING AND CLOSING PROPERLY, THAT NORMAL COMBUSTION OCCURS, AND THAT FUEL DRAIN LINES ARE INSTALLED PROPERLY.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The NTSB asks the FAA to issue an airworthiness directive covering Janitrol aircraft heaters models B-1500, B-3040, and B-4050. The directive would require an operational check—and, if needed, adjustment, repair, or replacement—at the next annual or 100-hour inspection (whichever comes first) and at appropriate intervals thereafter. The check must verify that the combustion air pressure switch contacts open and close properly, that normal combustion occurs, and that fuel drain lines are correctly installed.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
