Recommendation text

THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FAA: ISSUE WITHIN 3 MONTHS A NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY AND REQUEST FOR COMMENTS ON REVISING TECHNICAL STANDARD ORDERS C123 AND C124 TO REFLECT THE FINDS OF THE FAA TECHNICAL CENTER FIRE TEST STUDY INTO FLIGHT RECORDER FIRE TEST REQUIREMENTS BY (A) IN CORPORATING THE LONG-TERM, LOW INTENSITY FIRE TEST DESCRIBED IN DOCUMENT ED-56A PUBLISHED BY THE EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR CIVIL AVIATION EQUIPMENT (EUROCAE), AND (B) INCORPORATING THE HIGH INTENSITY FIRE TEST REQUIREMENT DESCRIBED IN EUROCAE DOCUMENTS ED-55 AND ED-56A, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EXTENDING THE DURATION OF THE HIGH INTENSITY FIRE TEST FROM 30 MINUTES TO 60 MINUTES. (Supersedes Safety Recommendation A-92-047)

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The NTSB asks the FAA to publish a notice and request for comments within three months on revising Technical Standard Orders C123 and C124 to update flight recorder fire test requirements. The revisions would incorporate a long-term, low-intensity fire test from EUROCAE document ED-56A and a high-intensity fire test from EUROCAE documents ED-55 and ED-56A, with the high-intensity test duration extended from 30 to 60 minutes. This supersedes Safety Recommendation A-92-047.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
