THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE: ENSURE, AT ALL AUTOMATED SURFACE WEATHER OBSERVING SITES IN ALASKA FOR WHICH THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS RESPONSIBLE, & WHERE CURRENTLY THERE ARE QUALIFIED NEWS WEATHER OBSERVERS (INCLUDING CONTRACT WEATHER OBSERVERS) ON SITE, THAT (1) OPERATIONALLY SIGNIFICANT INFO, INCLUDING DISTANT WEATHER INFO, IS MANUALLY ADDED TO AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSERVATIONS UNTIL TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS ELIMINATES THE NEED; & (2) ALL SUCH INFO IS COMBINED & DISSEMINATED IN A SINGLE AVIATION WEATHER REPORT.
