THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FAA: REVIEW GENERAL ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT ENGINES' TI-6242 TITANIUM ALLOY SUPPLIERS' MELTING RECORDS & IDENTIFY ANY VACUUM EXCURSIONS OR OTHER PROCESS DEVIATIONS THAT EXCEED CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS OR THAT MAY OTHERWISE CAUSE AN INCLUSION OR ABNORMAL MICROSTRUCTURE. BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THIS REVIEW, ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE TO REQUIRE REMOVAL FROM SERVICE &/OR INSPECTIONS OF THE COMPONENTS MANUFACTURED FROM THESE MELTS.
