THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FAA: ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE REQUIRING, IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROCEDURES DEVELOPED BY CESSNA AIRCRAFT COMPANY, (1) REPETITIVE INSPECTION FOR CRACKING IN THE CORNER BETWEEN THE TWO INNER DIAMETER PORTIONS OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR ACTUATOR HOUSINGS (P/N 1281001-3) USED IN THE MAIN LANDING GEAR SYSTEMS OF CESSNA MODELS 172RG AND 182RG AIRPLANES UNTIL ANY GRINDING OR FILING MARKS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND THE COMPONENT HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE CRACK-FREE; AND (2) THE REMOVAL OF GRINDING OR FILING MARKS FROM THIS SAME AREA.
