On 12 September 2019, an Air Serbia Airbus A319 struck a jet bridge at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport during parking. No injuries were reported. The aircraft sustained minor damage.

Incident Overview

On 12 September 2019, at approximately 05:39 local time, after landing from Athens, the Airbus A319-132, registration YU-APF, was parking at position C5 at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport when engine number 1 (left) struck the jet bridge. The aircraft had 3 cabin crew, 2 pilots, and 99 passengers on board; no injuries occurred.

Aircraft and Flight Information

The aircraft was an Airbus A319-132, serial number 3317, built in 2007, owned by GLL A319 AS LIMITED and operated by Air Serbia. The flight was JU-517 from Athens (LGAV) to Belgrade (LYBE). The total airframe hours after the flight were 37,542:35 with 22,964 cycles.

Sequence of Events

After an uneventful landing and taxi, the crew followed a marshalling vehicle and then used the parking guidance system for position C5. Witnesses stated the aircraft stopped at the designated parking marker. Shortly after stopping, the aircraft moved forward and the left engine nacelle and pylon struck the jet bridge, which was located about 8 meters from the parking mark. The aircraft came to rest beyond the intended parking spot.

Damage

The aircraft sustained minor damage to the forward cowl of the engine pylon, the engine inlet, the left side cowl, and the left engine service doors. The jet bridge also received minor damage.

Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) Analysis

The CVR captured the captain stating "PARKING BRAKE ON" after the stop. During the checklist, the parking brake status was reported as ON. When ground personnel signaled the forward movement, the captain responded that the parking brake had been on all the time.

DFDR data showed the aircraft initially stopped using pedal brakes at 03:37:47 GMT. Approximately 15 seconds later, the aircraft moved for 13 seconds. No increase in brake pressure was observed during that movement. When the Park Brake Selector Valve (PBSV) was activated at 03:41:05 GMT, brake pressures rose to 110 bar, progressively reaching the expected 145 bar.

Meteorological Conditions
