Landing and Incident
The pilot elected to land the aircraft on runway 35, which was subject to a left quartering headwind at 20 knots. According to the pilot, the approach and landing appeared normal, with no unusual crab angle or crosswind correction required. After touchdown, however, the aircraft made a quick turn to the left.
Pilot Actions and Runway Departure
The pilot reported that he was able to stop the left turn but could not turn the aircraft back to the runway heading. Subsequently, the aircraft departed the runway at an angle of approximately 30 degrees.
Nose Gear Failure
After leaving the runway, the nose gear struck a hard packed drift. The impact caused the nose gear to fail.
