Accident Sequence
According to the pilot, during the landing approach to Runway 14, the aircraft encountered a downdraft while flying over low terrain on final approach. The pilot attempted to correct with power, but the aircraft touched down at the end of the runway. After touchdown, a gust of wind lifted the right wing, causing the left landing gear to slam down and collapse. Subsequently, the remaining two landing gear collapsed as the aircraft moved through muddy terrain before coming to a stop.
Environmental Conditions
The airport was situated on a knoll, with terrain sloping downward from the approach end of the runway. The wind was from 230 degrees relative to the runway, gusting between 6 and 22 knots, resulting in a crosswind during the approach. The pilot reported encountering the downdraft while flying over the low terrain on final approach.
Landing Gear Failure
The left landing gear collapsed first after the wing was lifted by a gust. Then, as the aircraft moved forward, the other two landing gear collapsed in the muddy terrain. The aircraft came to rest after all gear had failed.
