Accident Sequence
The pilot of a tailwheel aircraft returned from a sport parachuting flight and landed on Runway 3. The wind was from the right at 5 knots. According to the pilot, the touchdown was normal. However, when the tailwheel came down at approximately 40 knots, the aircraft began to turn to the left. The pilot applied right rudder and right brake to correct. Subsequently, the aircraft veered to the right. The pilot then attempted to correct back to the left, but the aircraft continued off the right side of the runway and came to rest in a ravine.
Pilot Report
After the accident, the pilot reported a right brake malfunction. However, when he submitted an accident report, he indicated that there was no mechanical failure or malfunction.
