Incident Overview
A flight crew aborted a takeoff after observing sparks and flares on the left side of the cargo or cabin area, behind a bulkhead. The crew attempted to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful, leading to an evacuation. The aircraft was subsequently destroyed by fire.
Prior Maintenance
The original flight had been aborted due to a magneto problem. The defect was corrected, but due to the delayed departure, the pilot elected to fly to McAllen, Texas, for further repairs. The incident occurred during the subsequent takeoff roll.
Investigation
An investigation was conducted, but the source of the fire could not be determined.
