Incident Details
An aircraft collided with Dorset Mountain, located approximately 18 miles south of Rutland airport. The aircraft was found in a level attitude at an elevation of 3,300 feet. Dorset Mountain has an elevation of 3,515 feet. No flight plan was filed for the flight.
Weather and Communication
The pilot, when about 30 miles from Rutland, radioed the airport for weather information. The airport reported broken clouds at 1,500 feet, overcast at 2,700 feet, snow, light fog, and visibility of 5 miles. The pilot responded that he would call again when closer to the airport. No further transmissions were received from the pilot.
