Flight and Accident
Delta Air Lines Flight 191 was a scheduled domestic service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Los Angeles, California, with an intermediate stop at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). On August 2, 1985, the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar operating the flight encountered a microburst while on approach to land at DFW.
Impact and Disintegration
The aircraft impacted ground just over one mile (1.6 km) short of the runway. It struck a car near the airport, collided with two water tanks, and disintegrated.
Casualties and Injuries
Of the 163 occupants on board, 136 people died and 25 others were injured in the accident. The driver of the car struck by the aircraft also died.
