What happened
On March 31, 2008, a Neiva NE-821 (a Brazilian-manufactured Piper PA31T/T1040), operating as a domestic cargo flight for Abaeté Táxi Aéreo, crashed while on approach to Lencois, Bahia, Brazil. The aircraft, registered PT-VCI, was operating in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) at the time of the accident. The crash resulted in 2 fatalities and the total destruction of the airplane.
The investigation
The Brazilian accident investigation agency, CENIPA, requested assistance from the NTSB to assist in the readout of the damaged cockpit voice recorder (CVR). Piper Aircraft was notified of the accident.
