What happened
On July 14, 2008, at approximately 1744 UTC, a Boeing 737-282, registration 5N-BIG, operated by Chanchangi Airlines, crashed while landing at Port Harcourt International Airport, Nigeria. The flight had departed from Lagos, Nigeria, and was executing an instrument approach to runway 21.
During the landing phase, the aircraft overran the runway. At the time of the accident, the area was experiencing thunderstorms and instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) with a visibility of 0.5 statute miles and winds of 010 degrees at 10 knots.
Of the 46 people on board, including 6 crewmembers and 40 passengers, there were 0 fatalities. One passenger sustained minor injuries, and all others were not injured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage, though no fire occurred.
