Landing Attempt and Runway Excursion
According to the investigation, the private pilot was conducting a landing when the aircraft crossed the runway threshold at a speed of 110 knots at an altitude of 50 feet above ground level. The pilot then attempted to execute a soft landing, which resulted in a flare that was longer than typical. After touchdown, the remaining runway length was insufficient to bring the airplane to a stop on the prepared surface. The airplane subsequently departed the end of the runway.
Damage and Pilot Egress
The aircraft sustained substantial damage as a result of the overrun. The pilot was able to egress from the airplane without any assistance.
Pilot's Statement
The pilot reported that the accident could have been prevented if he had maintained a slower airspeed on final approach and shortened the flare distance.
