Incident Details
On March 23, 2009, at 1700 Atlantic standard time, a Piper PA31-350 Chieftain, registration PT-EHG, experienced a brake fire after landing at Lorenzo Airport (SNCL) in Cairu, Brazil. The aircraft sustained minor damage. The pilot and seven passengers were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, which had departed from Salvador Luis R. Magalhaes Airport (SBSV).
According to information released by the Centro de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronauticos (CENIPA), the airplane suffered a brake failure. After landing, the pilot shut down the engines, and the airplane departed the left side of the runway. Once the aircraft came to rest, the left brake assembly ignited. The pilot extinguished the fire using the airplane's hand-held fire extinguisher.
Damage
The aircraft sustained minor damage to the left brake assembly and the left main landing gear.
