Accident Details
On May 11, 2008, at approximately 1930 Atlantic standard time, a Cessna 172 RG, Bolivian registration CP-2492, operated by a private individual, collided with a tree with its left wing during a personal flight. After the wing strike, the aircraft impacted terrain and a fire ensued. The accident site was located about 1,150 meters from an unlit runway at the "Agropecuaria Arco Iris" airstrip, north of Montero, Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Flight and Conditions
The flight originated from El Tromprillo Airport in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, at about 1808. Night time visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed. The purpose of the flight was personal.
Injuries and Damage
The pilot and four passengers on board received fatal injuries. The aircraft was destroyed by the impact and subsequent fire.
