What happened

On May 11, 2008, at approximately 19:30 Atlantic standard time, a Cessna 172 RG, bearing registration CP-2492, crashed near Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The aircraft departed from El Tromprillo Airport at approximately 18:08 for a personal flight.

While flying under night visual meteorological conditions, the aircraft struck a tree with its left wing before impacting the ground. The impact was followed by a fire. The accident occurred approximately 1,150 meters from the unlit runway of the Agropecuaria Arco Iris airstrip, located north of Montero. No flight plan had been filed for the flight.
