Incident Summary
A commercial pilot was performing a touch-and-go maneuver in a tail-wheel equipped airplane. After applying the throttle to initiate the takeoff, the pilot lost directional control as the airplane veered towards the left side of the runway. The pilot then added full engine power in an attempt to "power out" of the loss of directional control. However, the airplane subsequently contacted vegetation and soft soil, causing the airplane to nose over and come to rest in an inverted position.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the top wing and the rudder of the airplane. The extent of damage was confined to these components.
Examination Findings
Federal Aviation Administration inspectors conducted an examination of the airplane and its engine. The examination revealed no pre-impact anomalies, indicating that the airframe and powerplant were functioning normally prior to the event.
