Accident
On August 22, 2009, at 1252 coordinated universal time, a Cessna T206H experienced a nose-over accident during a water landing at Hamburg Harbour in Hamburg, Germany. The airplane came to rest with its cabin submerged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time.
Aircraft and Flight
The flight originated from Airport Hamburg-Fuhlsbuttel. The pilot attempted a water landing with the landing gear extended. Following ground contact, the aircraft nosed over. The pilot was not injured, but the two passengers aboard the airplane sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft itself was substantially damaged.
Investigation
The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) is conducting the investigation. The German government has jurisdiction and control over the inquiry. According to German investigators, the pilot landed on the water with the landing gear extended, which preceded the nose-over. Further information may be obtained from the BFU.
