Incident
On September 8, 2009, at 1240 coordinated universal time, a Commander 114, registered in the United Kingdom as G-DANT, and a Reims F172, registered in France as F-BXIU, collided in mid-air near Commune de Brethencourt, France. The collision occurred at an altitude of 1,500 feet in class G airspace. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident.
Aircraft and Occupants
The Commander 114 carried a pilot and one passenger; neither was injured. The Reims F172 carried a student pilot and a flight instructor, both of whom sustained fatal injuries. The Commander 114 performed a forced landing to a field and sustained substantial damage due to the collision. The Reims F172 departed controlled flight and was destroyed upon impact with terrain.
