What happened
On November 14, 2009, at approximately 1025 UTC, an English Electric Lightning MK T5, registration ZU-BEX, crashed near Bredasdorp, South Africa. The aircraft was performing aerobatic maneuvers during an airshow when the pilot reported experiencing a hydraulic failure.
The flight originated from Overburg Air Force Base. At the time of the accident, visual meteorological conditions were in effect. The aircraft was destroyed in the crash, and a fire occurred at the site. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, sustained 1 fatal injury.
