What happened
On February 17, 2010, at 1555 UTC, a Boeing 757, registration G-BYAI, operated by Thompson Airways, encountered issues with the airspeed indicators for both the pilot and the first officer. The incident occurred during the climbout phase from Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain.
At the time of the event, the aircraft was flying through an area characterized by turbulence and lightning activity. While the aircraft was not struck by lightning, the airspeed indications fluctuated during the period of atmospheric disturbance. The indications returned to normal once the aircraft exited the turbulent and lightning-prone area. The flight proceeded to London Gatwick Airport (LGW), where it landed without further incident. There were no injuries resulting from this event.
