What happened

On May 22, 2010, at approximately 6:10 am local time, Air India Express flight 812, a Boeing 737-800 with registration VT-AXV, was landing at Mangalore International Airport in Mangalore, India. The aircraft, which had originated from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, overran the runway and entered a valley. Following the overrun, the airplane was substantially consumed by a post-crash fire.

Of the 166 passengers and crew on board, there were 158 fatalities and 8 survivors.
