What happened
On June 1, 2010, at approximately 11:23 central daylight time, a Bell 412EP, registration XA-HSI, performed an emergency water landing in the Gulf of Mexico near Campeche, Mexico. The aircraft was traveling from an offshore oil rig toward a land base when the crew experienced a loss of tail rotor control.
At the time of the event, weather conditions were within visual meteorological limits. All 13 occupants (two pilots and eleven passengers) were not injured during the landing. Following the touchdown, the helicopter's floats were deployed, allowing the aircraft to remain afloat for approximately 1 hour and 37 minutes. The aircraft eventually capsized for reasons that were not determined.
