A single-engine aircraft crashed into the water near Arnos Vale following an in-flight breakup during a domestic flight.

What happened

On August 5, 2010, a Cessna 402-C, registration J8-SXY, was involved in a fatal accident approximately seven minutes after departing from E.T. Joshua Airport (TVSV) in Kingstown, St. Vincent. The aircraft, operated by St. Vincent Grenadines Air Limited, was performing a domestic VFR flight toward the Island of Canouan (TVSC).

At 2217 UTC, the pilot contacted the E.T. Joshua tower controller to report experiencing a "serious vibration on the aircraft." Following this transmission, the controller made several attempts to contact the aircraft, but no further communication was established. A witness observed pieces of the aircraft falling into the water before the final impact. The accident resulted in 1 fatality.

At the time of the event, weather conditions at the airport were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a wind of 120 degrees at 9 knots and visibility of 10 miles.
