Incident Details
A pilot was taxiing at an airport where a NOTAM indicated taxiway construction was in progress. During the pre-flight planning, the pilot had noted the construction alert. While approaching the construction area, the pilot observed vehicles parked off the edge of the taxiway. As he continued taxiing, he reported scanning the engine instruments and dialing in a frequency when he felt a jolt. He immediately shut down the airplane and exited, discovering that the left wing had contacted a vehicle belonging to one of the construction workers.
Pilot Statement
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies with the airplane. He indicated that he was taxiing on the taxiway centerline at the time of the impact.
Construction Worker Practices
Other workers at the site reported that their rule was to park their vehicles behind the taxiway lights to ensure adequate clearance for aircraft on the taxiway.
Damage
The left wing of the airplane sustained substantial damage. No other damage was reported.
