What happened

On August 15, 2010, at 16:10 Japan standard time, a McDonnell Douglas MD90-30, operating as JA002D, experienced an engine fire shortly after takeoff from Sendai, Japan. The crew received a fire warning for the right engine, which was an International Aero Engine (IAE) V2525-D5.

In response to the warning, the pilots discharged the engine fire extinguishers and subsequently shut down the engine. The crew declared an emergency and returned the aircraft to Sendai. There were no injuries among the 106 people on board.
