Incident Overview
On August 24, 2010, at approximately 7:30 AM local time, an Agni Air Dornier 228 aircraft, registered as 9N-AHE and powered by Garrett TPE331 engines, impacted terrain roughly 20 miles south of Kathmandu-Tribhuvan Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, Nepal. The flight had departed from KTM and was destined for Lukla-Tenzing-Hillary Airport (LUA). The 14 individuals on board, comprising passengers and crew, sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft was completely destroyed.
Investigation
The Nepal Accident Investigation Commission is conducting the investigation into the accident. In accordance with ICAO Annex 13, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist, given that the United States is the state of design and manufacture of the aircraft's engines.
