What happened

On August 24, 2010, at approximately 9:40 PM local time, Henan Airlines flight VD8738, an Embraer 190 with registration B-3130, was performing an approach to runway 30 at Yichun Airport in Yichun, China. The flight had originated from Harbin Taiping International Airport.

During the approach, the aircraft impacted terrain approximately 1.5 km (0.9 miles) short of the runway. Following the impact, the airplane was substantially consumed by a post-crash fire. Of the 96 passengers and crew on board, there were 42 fatalities, 7 serious injuries, and 47 minor injuries.
