Accident Overview
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, a private pilot and a passenger were involved in an accident while attempting to take off from a remote lake in a float-equipped airplane. The aircraft was operating under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a local personal flight. During the initial climb, the airplane struck trees located on the perimeter of the lake. The impact caused the airplane to become inverted in the trees and subsequently catch fire.

The pilot, who was not certificated for seaplane operations, reported that the airplane had no preimpact mechanical problems. In his report to the NTSB, he noted that he had probably overloaded the airplane prior to takeoff.
Aftermath
Both the pilot and passenger were not injured in the accident. The airplane sustained structural damage to the fuselage and wings.
