Accident Details
On August 21, 2011, at 1225 coordinated universal time, a German-registered Gardan Horizon GY80-160, registration D-EKCN, crashed shortly after departing from Mauterndorf Airport (LOSM) in Mauterndorf, Austria. The aircraft was owned and piloted by the accident pilot, who was accompanied by one passenger. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The flight was originating at the time of the accident.
Circumstances
According to reports received by Austrian investigators, the airplane lost altitude after takeoff from runway 25 and struck a tree. It subsequently crashed into a grass field, and a post-impact fire occurred. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured in the accident.
