Accident Overview
An experimental amateur-built airplane sustained substantial damage after a landing incident on a private turf runway. The pilot reported that he entered the traffic pattern with the intention to land on the southern portion of the runway in order to avoid construction activities on a new paved runway.
Witness Account
A witness observed the pilot execute a landing that appeared normal. During the landing rollout, the right main landing gear of the airplane struck a culvert located on or near the runway.
Incident and Damage
Upon impacting the culvert, the airplane veered to the right and subsequently came to rest in an inverted position. The fuselage, wings, and vertical stabilizer sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact and subsequent inversion.
Pilot Report
The pilot reported that there were no preexisting mechanical anomalies with the airplane prior to the accident. No other factors or causes were identified in the report.
