What happened
On January 27, 2012, an Embraer E170-100 was performing a landing approach at Katowice Airport (EPKT). During the approach, the crew moved the landing gear lever to the down position, but the left main landing gear failed to extend. This malfunction triggered a "GEAR LEVER DISAGREE" alert on the Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) display.
In response to the indication, the crew executed a go-around procedure and performed the prescribed "LDG LEVER DISAGREE" checklist. During the subsequent climb at a designated flight level, the crew successfully deployed the landing gear. Following the safe landing, maintenance personnel conducted inspections according to the manufacturer's procedures.
The investigation
The investigation, which concluded in January 2013, reviewed the findings presented by the operator regarding the event. The technical inspection performed by ground crews after the flight identified a specific mechanical failure within the landing gear assembly.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was a malfunction of the left main landing gear locking mechanism.
