On May 9, 2012, a Sukhoi SJ100-95 (RP97004) on a demonstration flight collided with terrain 35 miles south of Jakarta, Indonesia, killing all 40 passengers and 4 crew and destroying the aircraft.

Accident

On May 9, 2012, at 1450 local time, a Sukhoi SJ100-95, registered as RP97004, crashed approximately 35 miles south of Jakarta, Indonesia. The aircraft was conducting a demonstration flight at the time of the accident. All 40 passengers and 4 crew members sustained fatal injuries, and the aircraft was destroyed.

Investigation

The investigation is being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Committee of Indonesia (NTSC/KNKT). As the state of design and manufacture of the ACSS/L3 Terrain Warning and Traffic Collision Avoidance System (T2CAS) installed on the aircraft, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States appointed a U.S. accredited representative to participate, following an invitation from the NTSC. Inquiries regarding the accident should be directed to the NTSC at the Ministry of Transportation, Jakarta, Indonesia.
