A skydiving flight involving a Cessna 208 resulted in a mid-air collision between the aircraft and a parachutist.

What happened

On July 9, 2012, a Cessna 208, registered as PT-OQR, was conducting a local skydiving flight from Boituva Airport (SDOI) in the Boituva Municipality, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The aircraft was performing its tenth skydiving mission of the day when the accident occurred under visual meteorological conditions (VMC).

After climbing to 14,000 feet, three parachutists exited the aircraft. One of the parachutists intended to film the other two during the jump. Approximately 10 seconds after the jump, the aircraft began a descent to rejoin the landing traffic pattern. During this descent, the parachutist who was filming collided with the left wing of the airplane and subsequently collided with the other two parachutists.

The collision resulted in 1 fatal injury to the filming parachutist. The other two parachutists sustained 2 serious injuries to their lower limbs but landed safely. The pilot was not injured, and the aircraft landed safely despite sustaining substantial damage to the left wing.
