What happened
On September 7, 2012, at approximately 1100 UTC, a Cessna 402B operated by Rilievi Aerofotogrammetrici crashed near Rome, Italy. The aircraft, registration I-EJRA, had departed from Montichiari Airport – Rome Urbe (LIBR) at approximately 0715 UTC for a local aerial photography mission.
According to reports from Italian authorities, the airplane struck the terrain within a car wrecking facility. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire that destroyed the aircraft. The flight was operating under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 310 degrees at 4 knots. There were 2 fatalities resulting from the accident.
