What happened

On March 12, 2013, at approximately 2330 UTC, an Embraer EMB-820C, registration PT-VAQ, crashed while approaching Monte Dourado Airport (SBMD) in Almeirim, Brazil. The aircraft, operated by Fretax Taxi Aereo Ltda., was performing a non-scheduled passenger flight from Val de Cans International Airport (SBBE) in Belem, Brazil.

At the time of the accident, weather conditions were within visual meteorological limits (VMC) with a visibility of 6 statute miles and winds from 090 degrees at 2 knots. The aircraft disappeared from radar at 2026 UTC. The wreckage was discovered the following day in a eucalyptus plantation located approximately 300 meters north of a nearby railway. The impact and subsequent post-crash fire destroyed the aircraft, and the accident resulted in 10 fatal injuries, including the pilot and nine passengers.
