Incident Overview
During a landing attempt at a private airport, the pilot initiated a go-around after observing coyotes crossing the runway. In the process of executing the go-around, the pilot retracted the landing gear. However, on the subsequent approach for landing, the pilot did not extend the landing gear. The airplane touched down with the gear retracted, causing the bottom of the fuselage to contact the runway surface.
Damage Assessment
The fuselage sustained substantial damage as a result of the gear-up landing. No preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures were reported by the pilot that would have precluded normal operation of the airplane.
Pilot Actions
The pilot reported that the decision to go around was prompted by the presence of coyotes on the runway. The retraction of the landing gear during the go-around was a standard procedure, but the pilot did not recall extending the gear again before the second landing attempt.
Subsequent Findings
No other factors, such as weather or air traffic control communications, were mentioned in the pilot's report. The pilot stated that the airplane was functioning normally prior to the incident.
