Incident Overview
On October 16, 2013, at approximately 1209 Coordinated Universal Time, a Kawasaki BK-117 helicopter, registered in Taiwan as B-77009, operated by Sunrise Airlines, was destroyed following a loss of control while landing near Yushan N. Peak Weather Station on Taiwan Island. The helicopter was carrying two crew members and one passenger; all three received fatal injuries.
Investigation
The Aviation Safety Council (ASC) of Taiwan is conducting the investigation into the accident. As the state of manufacture of the helicopter's engines, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist the ASC in their investigation.
