What happened
On November 3, 2013, Aerocon Flight 25, a domestic passenger service, attempted to land at Riberalta Airport in Bolivia. The aircraft involved was an SA-227AC Metro III. During the final approach and landing phase, the flight encountered severe windshear conditions. This meteorological phenomenon caused the aircraft to crash upon touchdown. There were eighteen individuals on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.
Investigation
The accident investigation determined that windshear was the primary factor contributing to the crash. The sudden change in wind speed and direction during the critical landing phase overwhelmed the aircraft's ability to maintain stable flight parameters, leading to the impact with the ground.
Findings
The crash resulted in significant loss of life. Eight passengers died in the accident, including a six-year-old girl. Ten people survived the incident. The SA-227AC Metro III was destroyed by the impact and subsequent fire. The operator, Aerocon, was identified as the responsible airline for the flight.
