What happened
On December 2, 2013, a Piper PA-34-220T Seneca V landed on runway 29 at Warsaw Chopin Airport (EPWR). At approximately 08:35 UTC, after the aircraft had completed its landing roll, it was discovered that the right main landing gear tire had punctured.
Due to the damage, the aircraft was unable to vacate the runway under its own power. The pilot notified the relevant airport services, including Air Traffic Control and airport operations, to manage the obstruction. The aircraft was eventually moved from the runway to taxiway D2 at approximately 09:15 UTC, allowing runway 29 to be reopened for operations at 09:17 UTC.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the tire failure and the subsequent runway blockage. The investigation established the timeline of the incident and the operational response by airport authorities.
